Performing Arts Medicine

Michael Grasso is a semi-professional trumpet player, who performs regularly with the Not 2 Cool Jazz Trio. He is interested in the specific medical needs of performing artists, especially instrumental musicians. This includes programs for preventing, diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating injuries in performing artists, and also providing guidance in the management of chronic medical conditions in performing artists.

Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation

Musicians suffer from special health problems related to their occupation. Left untreated, they can become career-ending disabilities. For professionals and amateurs alike, a well-planned preventive strategy is the key to a long and healthy musical career. When problems arise, an appropriate rehabilitiation program is necessary to avoid further damage, restore function, and prevent future injuries.

Chronic Medical Conditions in Performing Artists

It is important to consider other medical conditions such as asthma and heart disease, and their impact on performing artists. The optimal management of these medical conditions is necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of musicians and other performing artists.
